At Home Goalie Drills
This one is for all the goalie out there! Want to improve your game in the cage at home on your own? Here are some drills you can do anytime to work on your game between the pipes!
Improving on skills like, footwork, eye focus, agility, reaction time, walking the line and many more! Working on smaller areas of your game like these will lead to a major difference in the cage when you put it all together!
Footwork is huge for lacrosse, especially for goalies! Having good footwork allows us to move quickly and easily move around the crease and create lower shot opportunities for attackers. Two great ways to improve footwork are agility ladders, the magic box and jumping rope. At the attached link you can find some agility ladder and the magic box clips to reference.
Eye focus and reaction time are two more major skills goalies need to have to be successful in the cage. Being able to track the ball, anticipate a shot coming and react to the shot, give us a better opportunity to come up big with a stop! At link you can find helpful drills such as; the Doc drill, the eye focus drill, and reaction ball drill.
The last drill we’ll discuss is the walk the line drill. The drill engrains our goalie movement into our muscle memory and ensures that each time we make a stop we are making it perfectly. Be sure to really visualize the shot as you make the stop and give 100% effort even though we are using our imagination.
