Defending a Cutter | Perfect Performance NOVA | Girls Lacrosse Blog
​When playing defense, there is a LOT to try to focus on at one time. Take a look at some of these tips on how to defend a cutter and set up your off ball positioning, in order to see the ball and your girl.
  • Need to have good defensive ‘V’ vision, sitting down low, taking up space with our body & stick.
  • Take a step back and either down/up the 8m to give yourself a better angel on your attacker, especially if you are on the elbow!
  • As your attacker begins to cut, step into her path.
  • Make clean contact as she enters the 8m.
  • Communicate you are leaving.
  • Maintain contact as you escort her through the 8m--Stay disciplined, DON’T foul.
  • Sit low and watch her hips, splitting her like a ‘T’--this allows you to remain between your cutter and the goal as well as deter any incoming feeds.
  • Use your stick as a tool!!
  • Once you have successfully escorted your cutter out of the 8m, you can resume your supportive team defense roles.  ​
