When playing defense, there is a LOT to try to focus on at one time. Take a look at some of these tips on how to defend a cutter and set up your off ball positioning, in order to see the ball and your girl.
Need to have good defensive ‘V’ vision, sitting down low, taking up space with our body & stick.
Take a step back and either down/up the 8m to give yourself a better angel on your attacker, especially if you are on the elbow!
As your attacker begins to cut, step into her path.
Make clean contact as she enters the 8m.
Communicate you are leaving.
Maintain contact as you escort her through the 8m--Stay disciplined, DON’T foul.
Sit low and watch her hips, splitting her like a ‘T’--this allows you to remain between your cutter and the goal as well as deter any incoming feeds.
Use your stick as a tool!!
Once you have successfully escorted your cutter out of the 8m, you can resume your supportive team defense roles.
