5 Point Soccer Development
FUNDAMENTALS-The cornerstone of learning, a successful playing career starts here. Our instructors will concentrate on these areas:
BALL SKILLS – Instructors will provide an increased player understanding of the importance of being able to possess the ball successfully. Players will learn the importance of striking the ball with the laces, the inside, outside or soles of the foot in order to control the ball while dribbling or setting up and passing to a teammate.
1v1 TRAINING – Soccer is a team sport, but much of the action a player is involved with is in a 1v1 (player vs. opponent) setting.
MENTAL COGNITION/GAME REALISTIC TRAINING – While soccer is a sport of athletic prowess and conditioning, those are only physical components of the game. For players to increase their overall skills there must be a successful mental approach to the sport.
ADVANCED TRAINING: During this phase of training instructors will utilize techniques and tactics learned during the other portions of academy instruction and expand a player’s knowledge base even farther.
- Dribbling: Soccer players are constantly on the move and more importantly, expected to run in full stride with fluidity while moving the ball with precision. Either with the left foot, or the right, our players will become fluent with all surfaces of the foot for precise, clean, and aggressive dribbling techniques.
- Passing: Players will learn proper technique for short, middle, and long distance passing game. We will focus on the individual breakdown of each type of pass to give players the most tools when out on the pitch. Players will learn when to pass to a players feet, lead them into space, and pick pockets between lines with penetrating passes during their training.
- Receiving the Pass: A pass isn’t completed unless a player successfully receives and controls the ball. Academy participants will become efficient at receiving the ball with not only their feet but thighs, hip, chest and head. This skill will be instrumental to the players next movement and the success of each players ability to play at a high level.
- Shooting: Our coaches will teach striking techniques for every situation and not limiting players to just their feet. Academy players will develop the skill to strike a sitting, rolling, bouncing, or overhead ball on goal. Our training will make clinical finishers inside and outside of the box to maximize scoring potential from all positions of the field.
- Consistency: A soccer match encompasses short bursts of speed, breaking down, cutting, as well as long spurts of continuous running all in one. Our players will learn how to maintain proper form in all fundamentals from the start of the game, until the ref blows the whistle to end the match. This will allow for our academy players to maintain high levels of play at a fast pace, negating the effects of fatigue.

1v1 TRAINING – Soccer is a team sport, but much of the action a player is involved with is in a 1v1 (player vs. opponent) setting.
- Defense: Instructors will present techniques for a player to keep an opponent in front of them, how to direct an opposing player away from the goal, eliminating attackers from the play and (MOST IMPORTANTLY) not fouling while on defense.
- Offense: Players will be taught tactics which will create the ability to elude a defender and successfully driving the ball past the opponent.
MENTAL COGNITION/GAME REALISTIC TRAINING – While soccer is a sport of athletic prowess and conditioning, those are only physical components of the game. For players to increase their overall skills there must be a successful mental approach to the sport.
- Pattern Recognition: Players will learn to ‘see the field’ better. Instructors will provide tips on the ability to focus on proper passing triangle and openings in an opponent’s defense which result in successfully moving the ball into a scoring opportunity.
- Playing in the Future: Players will learn to develop the cognitive approach to processing potential options (where players will be after receiving a pass, e.g.) to speed up their next move upon receiving the ball.
- Movement/Positioning: Instructors will provide insight on developing a sense of positioning whether on or off the ball.
- Pitch Awareness: Players will learn to recognize which players are on the pitch, where they are located and what moves they are about to make.
ADVANCED TRAINING: During this phase of training instructors will utilize techniques and tactics learned during the other portions of academy instruction and expand a player’s knowledge base even farther.
- Speed of Play: Advance players will be expected to increase the overall speed/reaction to game conditions. This includes moving the ball quickly down pitch to negate the opponent’s defense, and in the same increased speed create the ability to regroup to cut off an opponent’s scoring threat.
- Situation Play: Instructors simulate potential in game experiences, teaching academy participants exact game advantages/disadvantages (1v2 or 3v2, e.g.).
- Fatigue Prevention Training: This is the process of intense conditioning at the start of a session, creating a critical learning process for players to focus on the technical aspect of the game while suffering game-like fatigue.
